Top Pick BannerArtboard 1 3

1. Blue Yeti

4.8 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Four pickup patterns provide incredible flexibility
  • Awesome onboard audio controls, with instant mute
  • Broadcast quality sound

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Blue has been known to ship a small number of defective models
  • A couple of connectivity issues with the USB adaptor

This is our best pick for a reason! The Blue Yeti is the perfect USB microphone for almost anybody. Boasting broadcast quality sound and awesome onboard controls, you can also instantly mute yourself and flick through the four audio patterns this mic supports, including cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional, and stereo.

There are some known shortcomings that we feel we ought to flag up, though. While our experience was nothing but perfect, it has been known that a small minority of customers have been shipped defective models of this mic. Plus, the USB adaptor didn’t provide the most seamless set-up experience but once you’re connected and good to go, you won’t need to look back! We can’t recommend this USB microphone enough.

2. Elgato Wave:3

4.6 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Consistently clear audio that captures speech with precision
  • Multilayered noise shield keeps background distractions to a minimum
  • Super simple set-up process

Reasons to Avoid:

  • A little on the pricey side
  • Only supports unidirectional audio

A worthy mention must go to our runner-up, the Elgato Wave:3. This boasts some of the clearest, most consistent audio and the Wave:3 capture speech with unrivaled precision. If you’re going to be recording a podcast, this really could be the one for you. A multi-layered noise shield means that your work video conferences won’t suffer from background distractions and we found the set-up process super simple.

However, this mic is a little on the pricey side – and is actually more expensive than our top pick, so choose wisely. Also, if you’re after something other than unidirectional audio, you’re out of luck as this is the only pattern supported.

3. Fifine K669B

4.5 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Super simple plug and play set-up
  • Bundled with a handy tripod stand, ideal for video calls
  • Clear and crisp sound at an excellent price

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Often not in stock due to an excellent price tag
  • USB cable could be longer

Our budget pick is clearly a popular one with the market as it’s often not available to buy due to stock limitations! We think this must be down to the super handy plug-and-play set-up, clear and crisp sound quality, as well as the useful tripod, stand that the Fifine K669B comes bundled with – making it ideal for video conferencing

Our only gripe? The USB cable could be a little longer, and this would only add to what is an otherwise very convenient and good quality USB microphone.

4. Razer Seiren Mini

4.3 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Captures your voice perfectly, with no keyboard and mouse clicks audibly
  • Ultra-compact build, ideal for use when on the move
  • Crisp highs and deep lows, making for a decent sound quality

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Only supports unidirectional audio
  • Lacks a mute button, which is a bit of a pain on video calls

Razer has a good reputation for a reason. The Seiren Mini boasts an ultra-compact build, which is great for remote workers moving between their home office and business commutes.

The sound quality on this mic is pretty decent too, and it’s clear that it has been designed to capture your voice above anything else, with very few other noises audible to us during testing. We wish the Seiren Mini had a mute button though – a glaring omission from Razer!

5. Rode NT-USB

4.1 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • High-quality studio sound
  • Great compatibility, including with Apple’s iPad
  • Well respected brand name within the audio industry

Reasons to Avoid:

  • A little on the sensitive side for some
  • The plasticky stand could be better

Rode’s NT-USB delivers high-quality studio level sound but with the added benefit of USB connectivity. The mic boasts great compatibility too – even working with Apple’s iPad meaning you can guarantee great sound on the go. We didn’t expect much less in fairness as Rode is a well-known name in the audio sector.

However, a couple of downsides meant it isn’t higher up our list, including the plasticky stand the NT-USB comes with and the fact that it’s as sensitive as it is. Some background noise will be picked up but then this is designed to be used in a studio.

6. Shure MV5

4.0 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Eye-catching design
  • Easily connects to Apple’s iOS devices including iPhone and iPad
  • Great price

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Audio quality could be improved but is impressive
  • Plasticky build quality

Shure’s eye-catching design and great price made this microphone instantly stand out to us. It’s best for those of you who want to connect to good quality audio on the move, as this device works well with both iPhones and iPads. We do rate the sound quality but feel that this could be improved. A plasticky build quality is disappointing but the red design more than makes up for it!

7. PreSonus Revelator

PreSonus Revelator 1

3.9 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Elegant stand looks great on your desktop, with built-in cable management
  • USB-C compatibility
  • Good compatibility across Mac and Windows

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Pricey compared to other options in our rundown
  • Only three of the four major pick-up patterns available

The PreSonus Revelator is a brilliant microphone but comes in a little overpriced for our liking. The good news is that this mic features USB-C compatibility and can be used across both Mac and Windows computers. The built-in cable management was a dream addition and the stand looked great on our desktop during testing.

8. AmazonBasics Desktop Mini

3.6 out of 5.0 stars

*Based On Our Reviewing Criteria

Reasons to Buy:

  • Easy shipping through Amazon
  • Good value with plug and play set-up
  • Not as basic as the name suggests – good sound quality

Reasons to Avoid:

  • Only supports unidirectional audio pattern
  • Build quality doesn’t last too long

Generally speaking, AmazonBasics products tend to outdo their name – and this is no exception. While the built quality can’t be described as long-lasting, the microphone does provide good sound quality. Being an Amazon product, this mic was easy to ship and simple to set-up, so if you need a USB microphone as soon as possible, then this might be one to consider – even if only in the interim due to the great price!

Hopefully, our buying guide will help you to find the best USB microphone on the market with your needs in mind. Generally speaking, if you ensure to keep our four key factors in mind, then you can’t go wrong.
